Bad Bakerella

I have been a bad Bakerella. I have only baked twice in the last two weeks. Once was an attempt at a checkerboard chocolate and yellow cake, which went horribly awry because my Mother kept hovering over it like a sock to a nightgown in a load with no dryer sheet. She stole a layer which happened to be the Keystone, if you will, so the cake turned out marbled and unattractive. Razz Matazz!

Friday evening I tried out a new toy from Wilton. A checkerboard cake pan set. It took forever and a decade to fill the pans. My Mother was salivating when she saw me put on my apron so as usual, I ended up having to give her an entire layer to keep her out of the rest of the cake. I made the mistake of giving her the even layer, so the cake came out swirled rather than checkered. So much for a chocolate and yellow checkerboard cake, it looked like a sadly marbled cake instead. Birthday Schmirthday

I tried my hand at the two tiered cake for my best friends birthday. I really should have taken into consideration the size of the pans. I used 8″ and 9″ when I should have used 12″ and 9″. Poop! The cake did have an amazingly wonderful flavor as did the icing. Vanilla Almond cake with Amaretto Buttercream filling and Vanilla Buttercream icing.
