Hey there, readers! Turkey Day is drawing near. I hope that even if you cannot think of something to be thankful for, which I HIGHLY DOUBT, you enjoy a blessed (if you’re into that kind of thing, like me – the Irish Catholic Ex-Military Bakingista Labrador Enthusiast Redheaded Female – HAHAHAHA) holiday. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
My contribution to tomorrows festivities at my Sister’s house (thank you, God) will be two Pecan pies, two Pumpkin pies and Garlic Mashed Potatoes.
Now, I need to giggle a for a moment, again. More than several times this holiday season I have seen mashed and/or whipped potatoes referred to as “mash” potatoes. Mash is a verb, it is what you do to them, i.e. – to mash, I will mash. Mashed is what they are after you have proceeded to “mash” them, i.e. – I mashed the potatoes. I mean, come on, I’m just sayin….) This makes me laugh even more because being from Texas, I was almost 10 years old when I realized that you were going to “Wash” the clothes, not “Warsh”. Thank you Texas, lol.
This got me goin’ nearly as much as “irregardless” and “conversate“. I hate to break it to those of you that are lookin’ at this funny. Those aren’t actual words. Not to mention how much of a jackass you sound like when you say them. Liken to a kindergartener attempting to use big words. Regardless and converse are the words you searched for and missed…
I got off subject, again, sorry.
My late Great Grandmother, Jodie, made the most amazing pies, although, to be fair, I think my Grandmother didn’t make them because they shared the same recipe and my Grandmother made the stuffing, turkey and all of the sides.
The first pie, I failed to mix the butter with the sugar, prior to adding the pecans.
You can see clumps of butter floating in the mixture.
In the oven:

This just doesn’t look right to me.
Pecan Pie two:
Muuuuuuch better.
Finished product:
Muuuuch better.
Be Sweet,

And there is something wrong with clumps of butter…… no really, they look tastyl
The pecan pie is my baking goal this Christmas. I mastered the homemade pumpkin at Thanksgiving. Now I must do the pecan. My grandmother made the best homemade pecan pie ever but she no longer makes them. So I’m going to have to step up because no one else in my family is.
