Friday evening I tried out a new toy from Wilton. A checkerboard cake pan set. It took forever and a decade to fill the pans. My Mother was salivating when she saw me put on my apron so as usual, I ended up having to give her an entire layer to keep her out of the rest of the cake.
I made the mistake of giving her the even layer, so the cake came out swirled rather than checkered. So much for a chocolate and yellow checkerboard cake, it looked like a sadly marbled cake instead.
The homemade milk chocolate buttercream icing went perfectly with the butter and chocolate cake. It was delicious.
